Passion and purpose go hand in hand and both are keys to the secrets of success. For many, success is defined as living a satisfying, happy life. It is often described as a life where work is enjoyable, stress is reduced and purpose for living is experienced. Unfortunately, many people feel lost when trying to find their purpose. They have spent so many years fulfilling other people’s expectations they are no longer in touch with their own wants, needs, and desires. It is believed that whatever you are passionate about will ultimately reveal your purpose. Once you find your passion and reclaim your purpose, you will unlock the secrets of success.
From the time we are born, we are taught to meet the expectations of others. Humans are born dependent upon their parents and this often involves meeting the rules and requirements established for us. From childhood to school, other people set rules we must live by. They tell us how to dress, what to say, how to behave, what to study, what to eat and drink and where we are allowed to go. Many people grow up with preconceived educational and career expectations as well. This often leaves young adults with careers that please their parents but doesn’t necessarily appeal to their personal passion or purpose. One of the greatest tragedies is when adults are suddenly in charge of their lives, have an established career yet are at a loss for finding their passion and purpose. Finding your passion is vital to your success and happiness. It doesn’t matter what others expected of you. If you are to be truly successful, you must live the life you were intended to live.
If you feel out of touch with your passion or purpose, know that you are not alone. Many adults struggle to find out what their purpose is. Fortunately, it isn’t difficult to find. You probably won’t need to take a test to discover your passion, but there are tests available. More than likely, you discovered your passion as a child. Whatever you like to do in your free time is often what you are passionate about. This could be a hobby you engage in or something you’ve always wanted to do, but simply never had the time to participate in. If you were to take a vacation and had one month to yourself, what would you do? Where would you go? What activities would you participate in? What would you like to learn? The things that you want to do in your free time are the things you are passionate about.
The beauty of discovering your passion is that many successful people turn their passion into a career. Once you know what your passion is, educate yourself. Take classes and courses, develop your skill. Learn everything there is to know about what you are passionate about. Meet other people with similar interests. Find people who are more knowledgeable than you are and learn from them. It doesn’t matter if you are graduating high school or have worked a job for decades. Once you discover your passion, commit yourself to learning all that you can. Become an expert in your field and your passion will create opportunities for you. Finding your passion doesn’t mean you need to quit your job and launch a new career; however, that is highly possible. What it does mean is you are on the road to true success and living a life that brings you happiness. As children, we are taught that success comes from meeting our parents’ and teachers’ expectations. Once we are adults and in charge of our own lives, meeting the expectations others established for us simply doesn’t work. You must find your own passion and purpose for life. Only then can you live a life worthy of being defined as a success.
